After sharp competition with a site in the university addition to house the new Garnhart Reaper Works, East Side interests lure the manufactory by donating the block just west of the Catfish, between Mifflin, Dickinson and Washington -- plus $5,000. When the company doesn't survive the depression of 1873, our future as a manufacturing center appears in doubt.
