Resurection Cemetery – Bishop William O'Connor Memorial Chapel – Built 1966, Mausoleum 1977
  1. Farley, Chris

Bishop William P. O'Connor was the first bishop of the Madison Catholic Diocese when it was formed in 1946, and was widely viewed as a master builder. The Diocese of Madison was formed by Pope Pius XII, taking seven counties from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and four from the Diocese of La Crosse, and made O'Connor, of Superior, its leader. O'Connor made his mark in Madison by presiding over the construction of churches, schools and, the jewel of the diocese, Holy Name Seminary, a red brick structure looming over High Point Road on the city's West Side. He served until 1967, and died in 1973.
