Baders Upset Michigan, Fans Crush Each Other
October 30, 1993 – Madison, WI
The Wisconsin Badgers football team upset Michigan 13-10. Fans, mostly students, charged down the
stairs to run onto the field to celebrate. The people in the front were blocked by the guardrails
surrounding the field and were squeezed. The crowd in the back continued to move forward. Players
and security tried in vain to get the fans in the back to stop pushing forward.
73 students were injured, six of them critically. Badgers football players helped with the
injured. Per Mar Security (stadium security) and the University of Wisconsin were later found
liable for this situation.
As a result, design changes were made in the stadium which increased the size and strength
of the fences.
