302 Monona Ave. Built Ca. 1850
- 302 Monona Avenue, at the intersection of Wilson Street. Site of the current "Old State Office Building"
- It was built around 1850 by Jairus Cassius Fairchild, Madison's first mayor, and later substantially altered with additions.
- It later served as the home of his son, General Lucius Fairchild, who was governor of Wisconsin from 1866-1872.
- During his six years as governor, the House was the state's executive residence, as no such property was then owned by the state.
- The residence was therefore a focus of Madison's political and social life during the last half of the 19th century.
