Mary "Minnie" Mears Hobbins
Mary "Minnie" Mears Hobbins was a driving force in establishing a public hospital in Madison. She raised private funds and persuaded the City Council to approve $10,000.

In 1900 Susan Bowen Ramsey donated a 4.5-acre tract of land at the intersection of Chandler and Mills Streets for the facility. Ramsey was the daughter of a prominent physician, former mayor and banker.
