Conrad A. Elvehjem, president, 1958-1962: A native of McFarland, Elvehjem was also a university alumnus. He was a distinguished scientist and was on the university's faculty. His tenure as president saw increases in enrollment and expansion in research and technology on campus.

Elvehjem was president of the University of Wisconsin from 1958 until his death in 1962. Elvehjem was a leading scientist on campus, gaining prominence for his research in nutrition and vitamin B complex work. The Elvehjem Museum of Art built in 1970 was named after him, now named Chasen.
