James Watrous

He is the primary reason for the establishment of the Elvehjem Museum of Art. Watrous lobbied for a UW art museum since 1939 and was responsible for building the art collection into a representative collection of fine quality. Among other artistic endeavors, he painted the Paul Bunyan murals in Memorial Union and created the “Freedom of Communication” mosaic on Vilas Hall.
