Seen in the Madison area 1850-1880
Generally two stories
Rectangular or ell-shaped in plan
Flat, or low pitched hipped or gabled roofs
Wide eaves with decorative brackets beneath, dentals
Tall narrow windows with carved lintels, hood moldings, or frames
Elaborate enframements above doors similar to those over windows
Frequent polygonal or square belvederes, cupolas
Sometimes “L” shaped wrapped around a three-story tower (Italian Villa)
Nearly always have a veranda or loggia
Bay windows and balustrade balconies are common
Italianate Commercial Buildings usually have a heavy, bracketed cornice.
